Adopt-A-Stream Foundation
Created to identify and address degraded stream and wetland ecosystems.
Audubon Society - National
Audubon's mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. Our national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations, engage millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences.
Audubon Society - Skagit
A chapter of the National Audubon Society, for Skagit and Island Counties.
Birds - COASST
Citizen-science program established to identify the carcasses of marine birds found on beaches along the coasts of Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and California. The purpose is to establish baseline data of bird populations.
Falcon Research Group (FRG)
The Falcon Research Group (FRG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of field research, public education, and the conservation of raptors. For over 20 years, the Falcon Research Group has been conducting raptor research in Western Washington, USA, and throughout the world. Hawkwatching classes have given hundreds of people an insight into the lives of birds of raptors. Thousands of Seattle citizens have followed the activities of local peregrines on the Washington Mutual tower via their web camera.
Marine Resources Committee - Skagit County
This committee involves citizens and leaders of our community directly in future discussions, decisions and restoration commitments; enabling and assisting all segments of the public to protect and preserve the waters and their bounties as interested stakeholders.
Nature Conservancy of Washington
Mission statement: to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
Nature Mapping Program in Washington
The goal is to keep common animals common and to maintain our quality of life. Approach is to train individuals to become aware of their natural resources and to provide the tools to inventory and monitor their resources.
Northwest Clean Air Agency
The Northwest Clean Air Agency (NWCAA) is one of seven regional air quality control agencies located throughout Washington State. The agency is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local air pollution regulations in Island, Skagit and Whatcom counties and is also very involved in seeking local solutions to global climate change.
NW Straits Marine Conservation Initiative
As authorized by Congress the purpose is to coordinate county-based Marine Resources Committees, and to conduct regional projects such as derelict fishing gear and toxic creosote log removal.
Ocean Conservancy
Restore sustainable American fisheries; protect wildlife from human impacts; conserve special ocean places; reform government for better ocean stewardship.
Orca Network
The group is dedicated to raising awareness about the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats. Report or view whale sightings.
Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve
Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is managed by the Washington State Department of Ecology under the National Estuarine Research Reserve System established by NOAA. The staff at Breazeale Interpretive Center are very involved in education, research, and stewardship activities.
People for Puget Sound
Citizens' group working to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits through education and action. Their vision is a clean and healthy Sound, teeming with fish and wildlife, cared for by people who live here.
Port Townsend Marine Science Center
This is an educational and scientific organization promoting coastal education and conservation.
Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership
The mission of the Nearshore Partnership is to restore and protect the nearshore habitat of Puget Sound for the benefit of the biological resources and the integrity of the ecosystem, including the functions and natural processes of the basin.
Puget Sound Partnership
The Puget Sound Partnership is a community effort of citizens, governments, tribes, scientists and businesses working together to restore and protect Puget Sound.
Seattle Aquarium

Shared Strategy for Puget Sound
Collaborative initiative by Puget Sound communities to protect and restore salmon runs.
Shore Stewards - Skagit County
Started by Beach Watchers - for waterfront residents, farmers, parks, port districts, cities and businesses in Skagit County to learn better ways of managing their land to preserve critical habitat for fish, wildlife and birds.
Skagit Conservation District
The Skagit Conservation District (SCD) is composed of local farmers, landowners, and concerned citizens and is dedicated to maintaining Skagit County's renewable natural resources.
Skagit Land Trust
Skagit Land Trust acquires land for protection through purchase or gifts of land and by assisting landowners and other conservation groups and agencies to protect land.
Skagit River System Cooperative
The Skagit River System Cooperative (SRSC) provides natural resource management services for the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe and the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. On behalf of these two sovereign nations, SRSC works to actively improve fisheries management within their usual and accustomed fishing areas. Research topics include: harvest and hatchery management, research, environmental review, habitat restoration, and a range of other activities.
Skagit Watershed Council
The Council supports and endorses voluntary restoration and protection of natural landscape processes that formed and sustained the habitats to which salmon stocks (as well as other native aquatic and riparian dependent species) are adapted. By means of collaboration, technical assistance and education, they seek to fulfill their mission, which is to understand, protect and restore the production and productivity of the Skagit and Samish watersheds in order to support sustainable fisheries.
The Whale Museum
Goal is promoting stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem for for 25 years through education and research. (located in Friday Harbor).
Washington Native Plant Society - Salal Chapter
Serving Skagit, Island, and Northern Snohomish counties, the Salal Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) is dedicated to the preservation, conservation, and study of the native plants of Washington and to the education of the public on the values of native flora and its habitat.
Washington State Department of Ecology
Reaching the goal of a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound, now and forever.
Washington State Department of Ecology - Shorelands and Environmental Assistance
Helps communities manage shorelands and wetlands; focus in on state and local responsibilities for administering Washington state and federally-delegated laws.
Washington State Dept. of Ecology - Shoreline Aerial Photos
Provides 1993 aerial photos of all shoreline of Puget Sound.
