This long, tubular, brown seaweed, often constricted at uneven intervals, resembles thin link sausage or perhaps the intestines of a small mammal.  Plants grow to ~50 cm tall and ~1 cm wide in the mid to low intertidal.  Individual tubes are un-branched, but several tubes may arise from one holdfast.  Scytosiphon also has an encrusting “tar spot” growth phase.
