Delesseria decipiens (Winged rib)

This is one of our most beautiful and fragile red seaweeds. A discoid holdfast leads to a midrib 1mm wide fringed by a very thin transparent blade. The entire width does not often exceed 12 mm (.5 in). Little alternating bladelets arise up the length of the midrib. Fragile multibranched individuals of Delesseria up to 50 cm (20 in) high, grow in spring and early summer in the low intertidal and susbtidal.
