Cladophora sp. (Green tuft, green ball)

Bright green low growing dense "mossy" cushions characterize this seaweed. Each clump is a perennial assemblage of branched filaments, not usually exceeding the diameter of a lime, but filaments may grow to a length of several centimeters. The cushions are effective sediment traps resulting in only the uppermost filament tips being exposed. Cladophora grows throughout the intertidal, it can also be found on floats and pilings. A good place to look for it is in tide pools.
