With its small size (to 0.8 in./2 cm.) and camouflaging coloration, Marsenina stearnsi is nearly invisible on the white glove leather ascidian (Tridemnium opacum) that it lives on.  Although this small creature looks very much like a sea slug, it is not, but instead belongs to the family Velutinidae.  Like a snail, it has a shell but the shell is flattened and enveloped by the mantle.  This species can be found from the intertidal to a depth of 60 feet/20 m. and ranges from Alaska to northern Mexico.
