Lirabuccinum dirum (Dire whelk)

Watch
for Lirabuccinum on rocky beaches and on rocks set on muddy
or gravel beaches. The shell of this snail can reach about 2 inches
in height. It is a scavenger, feeding on carrion. It also
preys on injured animals such as limpets and chitons. This
snail has also been known under the scientific name Searlesia
dira.
