The small size, narrow girdle, and creamy white color make this species easy to recognize.  Maximum length is only about 0.3 inch (8mm).  Occasionally orange or light brown individuals are found; additionally it may be stained black by the surrounding substrate.  This chiton is found very low in the intertidal zone under rocks and seems to prefer those set on sandy mud.  Another common name for it is the minute white chiton.
