Katharina tunicata (Black leather chiton)

Katharina
tunicata reaches a length
of up to 5 inches. The leathery black or black-brown girdle
covers all of the plates except for a narrow strip down the dorsum
of the chiton. This species is found on exposed rocky beaches
where it is primarily an herbivore, feeding on diatoms and algae.
Another
common name for this species is black Katy chiton.
