As a result of an apparent identity crisis, the little stalked jellies have taken on an anemone-like existence.   They are jellyfish however.   This genus of stalked jellies stands about 1 inch high and are equally wide.   Color is variable and includes green, brown, olive, orange, and red.   The funnel-shaped upper part, or calyx, has 8 lobes and is attached to the substrate by a stalk.   Each lobe is tipped by a small bundle of nematocysts used in the capture of prey, their diet consisting primarily of caprellid amphipods.   Look for Haliclystus in late spring, summer, and early fall on eelgrass, seaweed, or rocks.   It can be found from the low intertidal to a depth of 33 feet.
