.

Watch for the small (1/8 th inch) yellow spots of boring sponge on rock scallops, moon snails, large barnacles, and other organisms with calcareous shells.   Much of the boring sponge is actually beneath the surface burrowing a honeycomb into the host shell.   This species is found from the low intertidal to depths in excess of 300 feet.   Another common name for it is sulfur sponge.
