This is one of two "sea lemons" found on Puget Sound area beaches.   (See also Anisodoris nobilis.)   Its average size is approximately 2 inches in length but may exceed 4 inches.   The color varies from a pale shade of yellow to bright yellow orange; it is sometimes a rather drab shade.   Black spots may be seen on the dorsum and the black extends onto at least some of the tubercles (small bumps on the dorsal surface).   Gill plumes are yellow or yellow-brown.   This species, which feeds on sponge, inhabits water from the low intertidal to 160 feet deep.

Another common name for this species is Monterey dorid.
