Anisodoris nobilis (Pacific sea lemon)

There
are two "sea lemon" nudibranchs in the Puget Sound area and they
look very much alike. (See also Archidoris
montereyensis .) Anisodoris nobilis is
commonly seen up to 4 inches in length but may occasionally reach
or exceed 6 inches (these tend to be deeper water individuals).
Anisodoris is a bright yellow or yellow-orange in
color and has a white tipped gill plume. If black spots are
present on the nudibranch, the black coloration does not extend
onto the tubercles (small bumps covering the body). Anisodoris
nubilus feeds on sponges. Look for it in rocky areas
where sponges are found. It lives in water up to 750 feet
deep.
Another
common name for this species is noble Pacific doris.
