Like many hydroids, Aglaophenia has a feathery appearance. Minute polyps extend from just one side each branch. Tiny sausage shaped structures called corbulae may also be present on the branches and contain reproductive structures. The feathery plumes reach a height of 5 inches (13 cm). These hydroids range from the intertidal zone to a depth of 525 feet. Another common name for them is feathery hydroid.
